Biography
Jazmine Mary is a neo-folk and dark pop artist from Gippsland, Australia, who established themselves in Aotearoa New Zealand’s music scene. Their visceral, haunting sound blends alt-folk and country influences with surreal, psychedelic imagery — music that, in their own words, “will allow you to be transported somewhere bold and watery.”
Their debut album The Licking of a Tangerine (2021) introduced an intimate, confessional style shaped by close collaboration with fellow New Zealand musicians. Dog (2023) deepened the palette: recorded at Sublime Studios with producer Peter Ruddell, the album featured contributions from Dave Khan, Courtney Rodgers, Elizabeth Stokes of The Beths, JY Lee, and others. Its ten songs moved between stark acoustic arrangements and richly layered production.
I Want to Rock and Roll (2025), released on Flying Nun Records (FN639LP), was recorded at Roundhead Studios in Auckland. The album was engineered by De Stevens and mastered by Emily Wheatcroft-Snape. It extended Jazmine Mary’s reach into bolder sonic territory while retaining the emotional directness of their earlier work.
