Sharpie Crows

Biography

Sharpie Crows are an Auckland post-punk and noise rock band, formed in the late 2000s. Mixing the confrontational energy of punk with noise rock experimentation and occasional art-rock textures, the band built a cult following through relentless live shows and a series of releases on Flying Nun Records.

Their debut album Nostalgia Kills (2012), released on Flying Nun (FN522), established their caustic blend of angular guitar, driving rhythms, and darkly satirical lyrics. The thirteen-track record took aim at suburban complacency and economic anxiety, drawing on the raw energy of New Zealand’s post-punk lineage.

12 Omeros (2013, FN526) deepened their ambition, with cover art by Alex Brown of Street Chant. Described as “the diary of a fevered dream,” the record moved between “the velvet unease of lush brass and synthesiser to the improvised fury of a sarcastic punk band destroying a garage,” incorporating brass, synthesiser, and a more expansive sonic palette while retaining the band’s sardonic edge.

After a period of lower activity, the band returned with the Endless Empty Eye EP in 2025, released through Sailor Mouth Records, signalling a continued creative partnership among the core members.
