Biography
avoid!avoid are an Auckland trio whose music draws on the hypnotic pulse of krautrock and the expansive textures of psychedelia. Formed by Brendan Moran, Sonya Waters, and Stephen Reay — musicians whose collective CV spans The Subliminals, Fang, The Hasselhoff Experiment, and White Swan Black Swan — the band builds long-form, motorik-driven soundscapes that lock into a groove and let it unspool.
Released through Flying Nun Records in 2016, their debut album Particle and Wave was recorded at Cambourne Rd Studios and mixed by Ben Greenberg (Uniform) at Python Patrol Recording in New York City, then mastered by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering. The result is a record that sits between drone rock and kosmische, all locked-down rhythm and shimmering guitar. Their earlier Low Earth Orbit EP (2015) introduced the same relentless approach — minimal, trance-inducing, and hard to shake.
