FLASHBACK to October 2011 — a mellow cracker at Darkroom, with two acts who both found a way to fill the room without filling it with noise. Note: Hannah Harding has since gone on to find considerable international fame as Aldous Harding, one of New Zealand’s most celebrated artists.
Hannah Harding
Hannah Harding vamped it up with low-key but sultry jazz-flavoured acoustic numbers, bringing an electric guitarist for the first few songs and toying with the crowd. Warm and intimate.

French for Rabbits
French for Rabbits were slick as a live act — I’d been a fan of Brook Singer’s recordings but hadn’t seen them play before. She really lets her voice shine in a live setting, and the duo format gives the songs space to breathe. Great set.
