Hilarious, brilliant show at Darkroom. Three very different acts, each doing something completely their own thing — and all of them pulling it off.
Log Horn Breed
Log Horn Breed opened, toning down the frantic energy of previous performances into a tight, explosive set. The Birthday Party-ish grooves and guitar — all shout-spoken, storylike vocals and interesting noise — were as compelling as ever. They’re always terrific.

Brian Luv
Local singer-songwriter Brian Feary debuted his new stage persona ‘Brian Luv‘, dressed to the nines and performing covers in a swarthy, showman fashion. Absolutely committed to the bit.

Thrill Collins
Thrill Collins are comprised of ex-Christchurch folk Jos Van Beek (vocals and discordant, not-really-guitar-at-all guitar) and Nick Robinson (rhythmic, gnarly bass), plus slinky local drummer Ben Dodd. The trio existed in name-only fashion for quite some time before the 2010 single ‘I Eat Pretty Well for a Poor Person’ established their sound. With Jos and Nick both based in the North Island, last night was essentially a reunion — and it delivered.

Brian Luv — The Karaoke Encore
Brian Luv ended the night by climbing the bar and launching into a swag of karaoke favourites, wooing the crowd with shameless showmanship. An unexpectedly perfect way to close out the evening.
