PseudoArcana is an underground experimental record label founded in Masterton, New Zealand around 2000 by sound artist Antony Milton. Operating primarily through limited-edition CD-R releases, the label has grown to more than 130 releases spanning experimental, drone, ambient, and avant-garde music, with a roster including Pumice, Seht, The Stumps, Purple Pilgrims, Paintings of Windows, and Peter Wright.

Apoplexy was a Christchurch-based experimental and ambient record label founded in 1998 by Peter Wright, who had previously co-founded the kRkRkRk label. Active from 1998 to 2003, the label released 18 experimental and ambient productions before Wright relocated to London, with highlights including his debut LP, Distant Bombs (2002), and Pariahs Sing Om (2003).
Venues
High Street Project was a long-running art gallery set up as an artist-run, not for-profit project with a particular focus on emerging artists. Housed by multiple venues (in and around Christchurch's High Street) over the course of 19 years, it also functioned as a performance space for a number of underground or experimental acts prior to the Canterbury Earthquakes of 2010 - 2011. #nzmusic #artgallery #highstreetproject #musicvenue

Celebrate Psi Phenomenon is a drone, noise and experimental music-focused label from Upper Hutt's Campbell Kneale, the prolific performer behind Birchville Cat Motel and Black Boned Angel. The label often utilises a distinctive wallpaper aesthetic to their cover designs. Now defunct label run by Richard Francis - aka Eso Steel. 20City released a total of 4 albums and a handful of single-length releases before Francis re-established the sub-label CMR, distributing both through the Auckland-based Acroma mail-order website. An experimental / noise label with releases from New Zealand, Japanese and American artists with Richard Francis central to most of the releases.

Richard Neave was an uncompromising noise artist and extreme audience provoker. He spent years beating up his guitar either solo or flanked by musicians such as Nick Hodgson/Harte, Lee Noyes, Peter Wright etc. Taking great pride in pushing the annoying, provocative nature of his playing he drove audiences away where-ever he played. Needless to say he was a legendary figure in the Christchurch underground music scene and those of us who knew Richard were very sad at his passing in 2010.
