When The Cats Been Spayed

Regular Cadets

Regular Cadets were part of the Gisborne live music scene of the early to mid 1980s. Members Martin Kirk and (future television celebrity) Jackie Clarke would go on to find more success in later group Marching Orders.

Marching Orders

Gisborne-based chirpy synth-pop 4-piece featuring the vocals of future comedian / television personality Jackie Clarke and F Star Records’ Martin Kirk. Thanks to an association with Doug Hood (who engineered their recording) the group put out an obscure 12″ single on Flying Nun Records, before disbanding.

Putty in Her Hands

Poppy post-punk from Charlotte Yates and Christine Jeffs (now a movie director). Released an EP, expanded to a 6-piece band featuring Jackie Clarke on additional vocals, then split in 1990 with Yates going on to record her own solo material.

Out of the Compost

Wellington group from the late 1980’s; notably sponsored by the NZ Student Arts Council. A review of the debut EP turned up in Feminist magazine ‘Broadsheet’ and there’s a very short clip of them performing at the 1987 Mangawhai Women’s Festival.
