Dunedin noise-rock/post-rock trio formed in 1994. Signed to Flying Nun Records through manager Natasha Griffiths, HDU built a fearsome reputation with their intense, dynamic soundscapes blending dense noise with atmospheric beauty. BBC presenter John Peel once called them "one of the 10 best bands in the world you've never heard of."
Venues
Dux Live was a purpose-built live music venue at 363 Lincoln Road in Addington, Christchurch, opened in December 2011 as the post-earthquake successor to the original Dux de Lux. Founded by Richard Sinke, the converted warehouse was fitted with a state-of-the-art KV2 sound system and operated as a dedicated live music space until 2016.
Record Labels
Auckland-based independent label formed by Martin Phillips and Benjii Jackson in 2009, with Michael McClelland (previously a writer for The Corner, but that site appears to be AI generated spam now) and Maeve Munro, completing the team.
