The Hasselhoff Experiment

Biography

The Hasselhoff Experiment were a Wellington garage punk duo who brought a raw, irreverent energy to the New Zealand underground during their five-year run from 1997 to 2002. Signed to the storied Flying Nun Records, the band released three albums of visceral, two-piece rock that owed as much to the Flat Duo Jets and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion as to any local precedent.

The pair won the B-Net Best New Act award in 1998, a recognition that helped introduce them to a wider national audience. Their self-titled debut appeared in 1998, followed by Always Outnumbered (1999) and the final record Out of the Sandpit (2002, Flying Nun FN463). Despite the stripped-down format, their live shows were noted for their intensity.
