Round Up Grand Final 2009

The Klap take it out! Excellent result and a tight fought contest with pre-show favorites the Klap victories in RDU’s annual (10th anniversary) band competition at the Dux de Lux. Tiny Paper Daggers were a close 2nd I reckon – the strength of their song ‘Unicorn’ just about taking it, but I think the Klap were a great choice. Runners up were blues showman’s Denmark Street, The Bizarre new Dave Mulcahy project Sexy Animals, and thebigcity favorites Jimmy Zoom and the Beytown Grifters.

Ghostwork, Denmark Street, Warble and Sandfly Bay

Another downbeat show at the Social Centre, with a mix of old-school rock (Sandly Fly and Denmark Street) and post-rock (Warble and Ghostwork) vibes. Warble’s down to a 4-piece now and sound really together; whilst Ghostwork are pretty slick for only their 2nd show; Sandfly Bay continue to grow and improve; catch those poppy fellas at the Halloween show next week. Had to leave as Denmark Street were starting to rip into it///

OLovely’s Leaving Show

An exhausting but exhilarating show at Al’s bar with 11 bands and a bunch of DJ’s, celebrating the OLovely’s leaving for a European jaunt. Though there were a few technical difficulties that extended this epic show well after 2am, it was definitely a not to be missed show with the Insurgents, Beytown Grifters, Denmark Street and a ton of other bands putting on stellar sets.
