The Jefferies brothers (Graeme and Peter, both later of the Cakekitchen) original Palmerston North lo-fi post-punk outfit.
Quite removed from Peter’s dramatic later recordings, Nocturnal Projections were an immediate, scathing punk outfit (the line-up completed by Gordon Rutherford and Brett Jones) that forged their own venue, released their own albums, and generally ruled the roost in small-town Palmerston North.

Great fun at this new All-Ages venue run by the Food Not Bombs people. We (Palace of Wisdom) had a great time playing alongside Abortion Bucket, Tweak, Mikkey Pixton and Craig and Teke.

Popular Christchurch rock outfit originally featuring Paul Hirst, Dylan Nicol-Hawes and Andrew Danks. Culminating a strong live following over many years in the mid to late 90s before finally releasing their debut in 2002, ‘Orkid then slipped out of the limelight, as musicians associated with the band relocated.
They played a brand of loud-quiet dynamic based rock with the odd guitar flourish.
The group changed quite dramatically after the departure of Hirst, for a while the remaining duo of Danks and Nicol-Hawes played as a low-key and vaguely hippy folk group, before Japanese drummer-vocalist Mika Takagi joined, infusing some upbeat rock’n’roll back into the group.
In 2007-08 ‘Orkid were a solid 3-piece rock group (Takagi’s drumming is exceptional and driving), with Nicol-Hawes guitar work taking on an offbeat reggae approach. After the group disbanded, Nicol-Hawes joined Christchurch-based group Lupas Lunar.

Andrew Brough’s pre straitjacket fits rock outfit, much in line with his later dreamy guitar outfit Bike. The Orange were popular in Dunedin during their brief tenure in the mid 80s, though they were over-shadowed by the likes of the Chills and the Verlaines, who constantly received country-wide approval. The Talented song-writer Brough was supported by Jonathan Moore and Peter Bragan.

Auckland-based pop-rock 5-piece formed by a bunch of ex-Cantabrians: Jason Kerrison (vocals), Matt Treacy (guitar), Tim Skedden (guitar), Bobby Kennedy (drums) along with the english-born Ian Munro (bass).
The band kinda came out of no-where in 2004 with a record deal and debut album before anybody had really even heard them play – though the group had been formed by the Smoke-Free Rockquest winning duo of Kennedy and Clint Harris (Rockquest ’89 winners ‘Outer Control’). They immediately jumped into a major-label bracket (their Siren debut was distributed by Capitol/EMI), and performed alongside the likes of che fu and the feelers.
Their debut ‘You are here’ reached number 17 on the New Zealand album charts and eventually went platinum, and was followed up by the even more successful ‘2nd hand Planet’, a chart-topping triple-platinum release on Siren records that relied on the huge success of signature tune ‘Maybe’, which has become a staple in New Zealand television advertising.

Tight instrumental (drums and guitar) outfit in the High Dependency Unit or Jakob vein based around Dunedin-born brothers Rob and Adam Falcolner. 2 years after the release of their debut EP ‘White Light’ in 2005 the group recorded a 3 day session with Dale Cotton, which eventually surfaced 3 years later as their vinyl/download only full length ‘III’.

Tiny Christchurch-based label initiated by Campbell McLay, that put out cassette (and some vinyl) releases from the likes of the Bottletops and the Riptoids, and continues to release Ritchie Venus’s many cdr releases (Venus aka Michael Braithwaite is involved in the labels running).
Through-out the 80s the compiled a swagger of local acts onto their Krypton Hits compilation series, and were associated with Arnie Van Bussells’ Nightshift studio. In 2012 the label went through something of a renaissance with German label Unwucht Musik re-issuing Venus’s 1998 album ‘Rocking to the Grave’, and then compiling various back-catalogue tracks from the Krypton Hits series as ‘Krypton Hits’, an excellently packaged vinyl-only release.

Since Cicada disbanded in 1997, Tutt has been very productive under the Onelung moniker, releasing a total of 4 albums and an ep in just 6 years, the latest (enetitled Nu Scientist) coming out on the fledgling Monkey Records label – an excursion into electronic sounds.

Hamilton hardcore 4-piece with Christian leanings; formed in 2001 (originally as Fallout) by Dave Baxter (guitar), Josh Klinkenberg (drums) and Daniel Taylor (bass) with Dave Jordan soon joining as their original vocalist.
After several line-up changes, the original trio plus Daniel Klinkenberg (bass) reformed as the now cemented one must fall, releasing a demo cd and recording their commercial debut set for a late 2004 release.
