Otautahi Social Centre

Otautahi Social Centre is a building run by a not-for-profit collective, located at 206 Barbadoes Street in central Christchurch. From 1 May it has been open as an all ages music venue, set up to cater for a range of musical tastes.

The Social Centre can provide a suitable PA system (including microphones and stands) and drums if necessary, security on the night, help with advertising (in the form of posters and flyers) and help with setting up gear. There is no stage set up, but one can be provided on request. The capacity of the centre stands at 150 people. It will be the responsibility of whoever is organising a show at the venue to provide guitar and bass amps, organise bands and the running order, ensure the show runs to an agreed schedule, provide a door float, take door money and stamp people at the door.

The cost for use of the venue is negotiable depending on the situation, but will in most cases be calculated as a percentage of the door take rather than a flat rate - this is a community resource, not a business venture!
