Thrill Collins

Kool Aid

Psych-shoegaze group formed (originally as Brian Tamaki and the Kool Aid Kids) as a solo project album by Christchurch’s Jamie Stratton, before expanded to a full group for the groups subsequent releases.

Lonely Harris Club

High School-aged shenanigans from future BnP members. Lonely Harris Club were firmly a party band with a focus on covers (specifically a large catalogue of Brian Jonestown Massacre songs, plus a handful of classic nuggets).

Salad Boys

Indie pop-rock out of Christchurch based around Joe Sampson (guitar / vocals / keys / bass etc) with James Sullivan (drums) and Ben Ordering (bass) on most of their recordings.

Strong on melody with big chiming guitar and unfussy rhythmic backing, their songs have a timeless quality to them – sometimes jangling, sometimes driving, and with Sampson’s powerful guitar playing always ready to attack.

Doctors

Doctors was a slick and prolific band formed by Christchurch musician Rhett Copland who put out a whole heap of releases between 2009 and 2012, however Copland has now disappeared from the web, deleting all the previously available releases.

Piha Rescue

Sadly defunct fun surf-guitar trio from Christchurch who released a handful of live recordings on BandCamp before moving on.

BnP

Brash, noisy, post-Earthquake Christchurch group who made a bit of a splash with the ‘Welcome to Mediocrity’ release on local label Melted Ice Cream in 2012.

The Log Cabin

Old and dilapidated wooden villa on Madras Street that functioned as a rather excellent venue for house parties and all-age events for a few years prior to the Canterbury Earthquakes in 2010 / 2011.

Occupied by a variety of individuals connected to Christchurch live music, student radio (RDU) and all-ages (Red Panda) scenes, the house was opened up for day time shows on the front-lawn or in the living room.
