There’s a couple HUGE Christchurch shows coming up, one of which completely flew by me until today. Firstly US electronic duo Matmos are playing that new Electronic/Experimental-orientated venue Third Door Down (7 Lincoln Lane, off Lincoln Road) on Wednesday, January 22nd and then I was surprised to hear that classic British punk group Stiff Little Fingers are playing Churchill’s Bar (441 Colombo Street) on Feb 18th.
Probably known best for their plastic surgery-sampling album ‘A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure’, or it’s follow up ‘The Civil War’ back in 2001/2003, the group released the well-reviewed ‘The Marriage of True Minds’ on Thrill Jockey last year. Tickets are available via Under the Radar for only $20 and the duo will be supported by the brilliant Sam Hamilton and the increasingly notable Misfit Mod.
The Stiff Little Fingers show looks like more your classic reunion-tour type of show, with a pretty high ticket price ($60!), and no word of who’s supporting, but for fans of that kind of straight-ahead first generation punk It’ll be well forth the cash.
