Golden Axe Tour Diaries!

Terrific Golden Axe front-man (and occasional journalist) Chris Cudby has been writing up some highly entertaining tour diaries on, as his group knocks Europe for 6 as part of the AMDISCS Summer Showcase euro Tour 2012. Check out the tour details on Facebook here.

Here’s an exert from Part One

We go home to sleep at Sami’s friend’s apartment place (which is huge and cheap and has a sauna) to catch some Zs but whoops – a laptop is left at the venue. The best solution seems to be to hire a 5am courier to deliver it back which costs some bucks but is worth it. Everyone’s happy! Daif tells me I should also mention that Sami has seen the Sam Neil film Possession every day for 3 months.

Here’s an exert from Part Two

A guy last night told us that he found free boat a while back and has fun just paddling around. It doesn’t take us long to notice that Gent seems filled with more good looking people than I’ve ever seen anywhere. Maybe it’s because of all the bike-riding. Chris Horse Head is super stoked to get a Belgium waffle and I buy some urgently required slip-on sneakers.

Camp A Low Hum 2012 (just about) Sold Out!

Blink just posted this on the Camp Alow Hum website:

Tickets to Camp 2012 are now sold out! BUT there are still chances to get tickets.

A) I have held onto 20 tickets. To get one of these tickets you must have been to a minimum of two previous camps or have already booked travel (flights/buses etc) and prove you had paid for travel before today or send me a super sob story – you need to email me ASAP to get one of these 20.

B) There will no doubt be some people who can’t make camp and need to sell their ticket for whatever reason. I will start a waiting list and if a current ticket holder emails me looking to onsell their ticket, you may be able to get a ticket this way. Obviously no guarantees that you’ll get a ticket, but you may as well be on the list. Email: and put “waiting list” in the subject line.

C) A current ticket holder may look to do a private sale. There will no doubt be people selling their tickets on the Facebook event page

For information about ticket transfers, read below before purchasing or selling a ticket.

Info on buying/selling tickets

If you buy another persons ticket to Camp, that is totally cool, however there is a simple procedure. Once you have purchased you need to ask the current holder of the ticket to email: with their name and ticket number, they need to also email me your name and email address. I will then email confirmation to you, the new ticket holder.

Tickets may not be sold for more than face value ($228 if they paid by credit card). If tickets are sold on trademe, they must have a “buynow” of $228 or less. If somebody tries to sell you a ticket for more, please let me know and I’ll get in touch with them to refund at standard amount and sell their ticket to you. I won’t tolerate people trying to profit from selling their ticket.

Familia Moja Benefit

Some of the very best Christchurch acts have selflessly agreed to throw a party for all yous cats in support of an orphanage in Mang’u, Kenya.

Kicking the night off will be the fabulous WILL ROUD (of Coate)

Insatiable MIKEY SUMMERFIELD (of The Undercurrents)

Followed by some dream-pop/shoegaze-tastic hits from MINIATURES

Brian Feary’s own MAGIC EYE

Playing songs from their new “Domestic” ep. DOCTORS

The power-pop-punk ecstasy of THE TRANSISTORS.

In keeping with The Brewery’s ethos entry will be FREE. However there will be koha jars on the bar of which 100% will go to building a new self-sustaining housing facility for the inhabitants of Familia Moja Childrens Home. Donations of even the smallest amount are greatly appreciated.

Come have a party and feel good about supporting some cute-as-beans kids.

Do check out the bandcamp pages if you have not previously, there is some really great material available for free or very cheap.

More information on this great cause, details on how to come along to help build the new orphanage and other events we’re running in support of Familia Moja can be found at:

Huge thanks to Brian Feary for the poster design.

PledgeMe: St Petersburg
PledgeMe: St Rupertsburg
Hey Cool! PledgeMe is a KickStarter type of site where you can raise funds for a creative project, or donate to a suitable project – Aimed for New Zealand based projects (which are sadly excluded from Kickstarter and other such sites). Looks like there’s already been a couple of successful projects, including Wellington-based all-girl St Rupertsburg who have managed to fund the production of their debut EP.

These initiatives are really taking off in the states, and for good reason. Check it out and contribute, or if you have your own project in mind, get involved! As (1970’s DIY punk outfit) Desperate Bicycles said – ‘It was easy, it was cheap, GO AND DO IT!’

Aquarius Records New Release Record Reviews

honestly we would have been happy if this was ALL the record did, but then we would have missed out on part two, which might be our favorite new jam

– Aquairus Records New Releases

Thanks to Helen who alerted me to this review of the Torlesse Supergroup’s self-titled debut. For the uninitiated this is Roy Montgomery’s duo with Nick Guy (Barnard’s Star). Aquarius Records are a San Francisco based rekkid distributor who specialize in hard to get, underground and (most importantly) great recordings.

Check the link, read the review and listen to the streams, its super!
