motorsheep
Motorsheep, renowned for their quirky melodic sensibilities and pounding rhythm section have flirted between underground cult status and shameless self promotion. their independent status and do-it-yourself attitude allowed them to embrace a niche market for their raw, power-pop sound. Innovative and creative they approached recording sessions and gigging with integrity and humour closely resembling naivety and inexpreience. Combining personal politics with emotional purity, a soundtrack of self discovery and search for identity. From humble beginnings in a backwater town, motorsheep developed up a strong reputation for their self released records and dedication to the all-ages live scene around the country. Motorsheep existed in a private universe for more than ten years, going through break-ups and reformations, but always churning out dynamic and varied musical gems. Arguably THE definitive Palmerston North band, pounding out power-pop crunching songs with an ear for subversive melodies. They play with intense rhythmic agression, often with a sly sense of humour pervading the songs that avoid being pigeon holed into genre classifications. Fiercely independent, they proudly churned out a musical legacy on a shoestring and played most of their gigs anywhere they could plug in and create soem noise. Two tours around the North Island, and countless support gigs with national and international bands, gracing stages with the likes of Dead Moon, Horace Pinker, Citizen Fish, All You Can Eat, H-Block and Gas Huffer. Through their own initiative and grassroots networking, Motorsheep headlined their own sporadic shows and randomly organised national out of town gigs with Somerset, Chris Knox, Balance, and sharing the billing with other seminal kiwi bands, Killtrain, The Nixons, Pumkinhead, State Of Hate, Slugfarm, Ghidra, Shinkstah, Nothing At All! The recorded output of the Motorsheep included a string of songs that charted on the B-net Top 11, namely 'Alzheimers', 'Moisture', 'Pinochet', 'Numb', 'X-Factor', 'Cutting In', 'Jennifer 8' and 'Space Cake'. With a discography spanning limited edition cassettes, US pressed 7" singles, EPs and albums, Motorsheep have also appeared on numerous compilations but never in the sale bin of a records store.
