Playthings

jay clarkson’s debut as a song-writer – the playthings were originally a 4-piece featuring clarkson (who went on to form the expenables and breathing cage) and janine saundercock – both sharing bass, guitar and vocal duties, along with dave toland (future stupid) on drums, and nikki carter on flute and guitar. with the break-up of toy love in 1981, bassist paul kean (who went on to form the bats and their sibling band minisnap) joined as manager – soon replacing saundercock as the bands bass-player and taking a role in song-writing within the band – before they all went their seperate ways in 1982.
