The Jewl of Bessamoocho

Biography

One of the first bands to release a single on the small pop-punk Pink Air / Girl Alliance label, which sprung up in the late 90’s, releasing catchy 7″ singles from a series of Auckland punky outfits.

Full of Riot Grrrl attitude and cool vocals from Japanese Vocalist Eri Miyabayashi.

Goldifox had a sort spin off band called The Jewl of Bessamoocho, where Amy stepped away from vocals and their Japanese exchange student friend – Eri Miyabayashi – stepped up to write songs and sing. Penny Collins continued to play guitar and Liz Mathews continued to drum. Eri’s perspective and mysteriously weird, deep and accented voice gave these songs a dreamy, but still punk quality.

Stella Corkery (Tom Tom Mag)

The Jewel of Bessamoocho are two girls (Liz and Penny) from Kerikeri, New Zealand and their friend Eri the Japanese exchange student and the founder of the anti fake the Beatles union.

Together they have recorded 4 songs of no-fi clatter and pop that will make you cry with their beauty. Mysterious and exotic punk-o-pop

Matthews and Collins would later enlist The Coolies‘ Sjionel Timu and become The Revengers.
