w/ disasteradio!, super-force, frase+bri, get set play!, not so experimental, goodbye galaxy, dj stevie kaye, dj jules, dj scissor kick, oct 27th 2006
got to have been one of the most exhausting shows i’ve ever been to. starting a night with not so experimental! is a bold move; as costumed bodies were thrown around capitol’s dance floor. capitol’s nicely broken up in to an indoor/outdoor setup, so much time was spent traveling back and forth, conversing with all the good folk and showing off my costume – i’m guessing my ‘mall emo kid’ outfit was pretty funny…
as the crowd built up through-out the night the dance-floor got more and more packed, with get set play! (i.e. mark from the tiger-tones on keys/vocals, backed by nick harte on drums) really sending the crowd in to a frenzy with the same kind of cool electro-dance-indie-pop the tones have honed so well.
goodbye galaxy was odd (to say the least); struggling with a faulty mic and odd sound – pretty trippy performance. speaking of trippy – chris cudby from golden-axe put on a pretty sweet display as super-force. wearing a mirror-ball helmet (hand-made!) and playing gritty keyboard numbers drenched in digital noise and distorted vocals.
frase+bri brought the southern flavor; showing off to their northern friends how the far duo has progressed since they last toured – bri’s singing got the crowd hollering. awesome.
so by now it was getting pretty damn late; i have no idea how these dancey folk keep going; and i was feeling pretty burnt out by half way through disasteradio!’s set. luke’s been writing soundtracks and scoring adverts; his liver performance was as fun and filly as ever.
we left to the sounds of stevie kaye spinning dana dane’s old school hip-hop classic (and horror-show staple) ‘nightmare’ – a great night out.
